Spain ends its investor (golden) visa
Since 3 April 2025 Spain no longer accepts new applications for investor visas or investor residence permits. Organic Law 1/2025 of 2 January, published in the BOE on 3 January 2025, removed articles 63 to 67 of Law 14/2013, which set up the investor route, including residence through buying Spanish property worth €500,000 or more.

What changed
Organic Law 1/2025 of 2 January (BOE of 3 January 2025, final provision 21) left articles 63 to 67 of Law 14/2013 on support for entrepreneurs without content. Those articles created the residence visa and residence permit for investors. The change took effect on 3 April 2025, three months after publication.
- New applications: from 3 April 2025 there is no investor visa or investor residence permit to apply for.
- Applications filed before 3 April 2025: decided under the rules in force on the day they were filed.
- Visas and permits already valid on that date: stay valid for the period they were issued for.
- Renewals: processed and decided under the rules in force when the first permit was granted.
